Overview
If you are already selling on Kogan and want to use Omnivore to automate listings, pricing, and orders, it’s important to review this information before clicking Start Selling.
This article explains what to consider when you have existing Kogan listings, how SKUs are handled, and the steps required to avoid listing or order issues.
Things to Consider
1. SKU Matching Is Critical
When products are first listed on Kogan, each listing is created with a SKU. How Omnivore behaves depends on whether that SKU matches the SKU Omnivore sends to Kogan.
If the SKU in Omnivore matches the SKU on Kogan
Omnivore can usually take over the existing listing and update it using the product data stored in Omnivore.
In this scenario, there should be no disruption to sales.- If the SKU in Omnivore does NOT match the SKU on Kogan
The existing listings must be ended on Kogan, and Omnivore will create new listings.
Important: This mismatch most commonly occurs with Shopify and BigCommerce. SKUs in Shopify and BigCommerce are not always reliable, so Omnivore uses the Product ID from these platforms as the SKU when sending data to Kogan.
2. Impact of Ending and Recreating Listings
Ending listings on Kogan and creating new ones can have short- to medium-term impacts, including:
Reduced visibility in search results
Lower ranking in category browsing
Loss of historical sales momentum
Loss of product reviews tied to the original listing
Kogan’s search algorithm considers recent sales activity when prioritising listings, so newly created listings may take time to regain traction.
3. Do Not Mix Manual and Omnivore Listings
We do not recommend managing some products manually on Kogan while listing others via Omnivore.
This approach can cause:
Order syncing issues with your eCommerce platform
Product data conflicts
Your manual listings being automatically ended during Omnivore purge processes, which are designed to remove products that are not listed by Omnivore.
4. Before Clicking “Start Selling”
If your existing Kogan SKUs match one of the supported SKU values shown in Omnivore, you must update your Omnivore configuration before clicking Start Selling and pushing live data to Kogan.
If there is no SKU match, all existing Kogan listings must be ended before proceeding.
Failing to follow these steps may result in data inconsistencies, listing issues, or order problems that can be difficult to resolve.
