Changing a Multi-Variant Listing to a Single-Variant Listing (and Vice Versa)
On eBay, you cannot directly convert a listing from a single-variant to a multi-variant listing, or from a multi-variant listing to a single-variant listing. This is a limitation of eBay’s platform, not Omnivore.
The same rules apply to most other marketplaces as well.
- You cannot add variations/options if the product is listed already
- You cannot remove variations/options if the product is listed already
- You cannot rename variations/options if the product is listed already
- On eBay, trying to change a product structure will likely result in an eBay validation error, such as "Invalid Multi-SKU item id supplied with variations."
Why This Happens
eBay treats single-variant listings and multi-variant listings differently in their system.
Each type of listing has its own structure for SKUs, variation specifics (such as size or colour), and inventory tracking.
Attempting to change the listing type directly will result in errors or listing failures.
How to Change Listing Type Correctly
To change a listing from single to multi-variant or vice versa, you must:
End the existing listing on eBay.
Delete the old product on your website
Create a new listing on your website with the correct type:
Standalone product for individual products.
Multi-variant listing if the product has multiple options (e.g., sizes, colours).
Re-upload the new listing via Omnivore/eBay LINK.
